It seems to be a reoccurring theme for people to refer to dieting every time someone wants to lose weight. No matter what you do in life, cutting corners for anything just hinders you at the end of the day. You go back to indulging in the unhealthy eating habits thus commencing the “yo-yo dieting” process which can lead to creating health problems in the long run.
Like most teenagers in high school, I thought I could lose a pound of six so I went online and tried a diet that you probably have heard of before; ‘The Military Diet.” I read the ingredients and steps in which I had to undergo to properly conduct this diet and it was relatively easy. Looking back now, I was a twig compared to what i was now so I don’t even know why that thought ever crossed my mind. Fair enough to say, I lost a eight pounds but it was only water weight so after I came off of it, it quickly came back. I would not advise anyone to follow my previous efforts due the fact that diets are temporary.
If you were to look up the definition of diet, it is ‘a special course of food to which one restricts oneself, to either lose weight or for medical purposes.’ Most of the time it used for those whose person health conditions have forced them to restrict their food options. In this day and age, the term ‘diet’ is commonly used as a “temporary highly restrictive program of eating in order to lose weight.”
Many fad diets and weight loss programs have managed to convince millions of people to join their schemes. It is unfortunate to say but most only follow through for a few weeks or months at best. Shortly after quitting, that weight is gained back. Since dieting is a temporary fixture, it will only work for a short period. While undergoing this state, this is what happens to your body; “The proteins release amino acids, which can be converted into glucose, which is great news for your brain but bad news for your body. Basically, your body is cannibalizing itself by destroying your muscle mass.” You have now put your body in a vulnerable state in which it is prone to new diseases and health conditions because as research shows, people who diet are eight times more likely to develop an eating disorder. So congratulations. You played yourself.
The amount of money public figures spilled into the weight loss protein powder, pills and drinks industry are one of the biggest scams of the twenty first century. These people are intelligent business owner due to the fact that they know their profit will be triple or quadruple the amount they invested in. People spent money on such product just because the label says it is effective. Society needs to learn that the only way to lose weight properly is to balance a healthy diet and exercise that work.
Needless to say a “quick fix” is never the way to go for long term results.
